Nomads and Me: first contract...
I am thrilled to be able to announce that this week I've sealed a deal to supply print design to Nomads Clothing, a fantastic fair trade clothing company based in Cornwall, for their Spring/Summer '19 range. As I live in Cornwall it's great to work with a local company.
Nomads produce quality clothing on a fair trade and ethical business model; working with their fabric and garment manufacturers in India, having built up close ties over many years with the companies and workers they use.
Check out their website using the link on the picture for this post. Vicky and Duncan's story from their days as awe-inspired travellers in India to the successful design brand that is Nomads today is one filled with warmth and passion. This open-hearted approach was really apparent when I met them and their wonderful design team at their beautiful studio earlier this month.
Many of you will know, if you've followed my blog so far, that this is my first commercial work sold, having spent the past year developing my portfolio and skills as I determined to establish my design studio and myself as a surface pattern designer and illustrator. I have been progressing through the amazing Art and Business of Surface Pattern Design e-course (from Rachael Taylor and the team at Make It In Design) which has truly set me up for the road ahead.
The past few months have seen me virtually absent from friends and family (sorry all!) as I got my portfolio ready to show. I've also been researching production of a signature product range (no mean feat) and hope to start selling soon through my website and select outlets. Starting with beautiful quality frameable giclee prints, soon you'll be able to browse cards, home and kitchen textile products, fabrics and wallpapers.
I'll post again soon to give some background insight into my portfolio preparation and search for ethical manufacturers and products (including zero-plastic packaging solutions).
Exciting and busy times! DREAM , PLAN, DO :-)
